Trickster god Loki catches Andvari after he has changed himself into a pike. Loki forces Andvari to give up the gold and ring.

In Norse mythology, Andvari was a dwarf who had the power to change himself into a fish whenever he wished. Andvari also was in possession of the magical ring Andvarinaut, which had helped him become wealthy. The trickster god Loki catches Andvari after he has changed himself into a pike. Loki borrows the goddess Ran's net to do so (pictured in this 1914 illustration). Loki forces Andvari to give up the gold and the ring, which Andvari does but he curses the gold. Andavari later recoups the gold but never the ring.
