Juno and the peacock; History of Argus. The hundred-eyed giant Argus, who had to guard Juno Io, was killed by Mercury. In memory of Argus Juno took his eyes and put them in the tail of her peacock. Mercury holds the chopped head of Argus while Juno gets the eyes out one by one and places them on the feathers of her peacock. The print is part of a four-part series of prints with scenes from the mythological story of Argus
