Frederick Barbarossa, also known as Frederick I, was the Holy Roman Emperor from 2 January 1155 until his death 35 years later. According to legend, the emperor Barbarossa remains sleeping under the Kyffhäuser Mountain and will someday rise again when Germany needs his leadership. The Kyffhäuser Monument, also known as Barbarossa Monument, is an Emperor William monument within the Kyffhäuser mountain range in the German state of Thuringia.
