According to this Chap-book version (and it is as reliableas any other), this lovely, but erring, woman was the daughterof Mr. Thomas Wainsted, a mercer in Cheapside, whosebusiness lay among the ladies of the Court, whither hisdaughter frequently accompanied him. Her conduct seems tohave been of extreme levit}^, and her father rejoiced when shewas married to Matthew Shore, a rich goldsmith in LombardStreet. Lord Hastings, having in vain tried to seduce her, andbeing forbidden the house by her husband, told the king,Edward IV., of her \ who went to Shores house, disguised as amerchant, and saw her. By the contrivance of Hastings anda go-between named Mrs. Blague, Jane was enticed to a Courtball, where the king discovered himself and told her of hisaffection for her.
