La Commanderie Templiere d'Arville, former Presbytery and outbuildings

The Commanderie d'Arville was founded by the Templars in the early 12th Century and remains one of the best preserved Templar Commanderies in France. The Commanderie became a farming centre, recruitment centre and a training base for knights waiting for their departure to the Holy Land. The site was occupied by Templars until their arrest in 1307, following an edict by Philippe IV le Bel, King of France, who accused them of heresy.
