Ayounger male has the whole plumage ferraginous,»lighter below, â and the back and scapulars suffused with a tinge of blue; the upper tail-coverts brighter ferruginous; tail brown, edged with ferruginous ; lesser wiug-coverts cobalt-blue as in the adult; the other coverts and the quills brown, edged with ferruginous. ^ The nestling, according to Holdsworth, is brown, darker on thJ upper surface and more rufous below; the feathers of the fore- head, throat, and breast centred with yeUow-brown; an indication of blue on the carpal Fig. 54.âHead of A. According to Legge the adult female is similar to the adult male, but has the wing-spot lighter in colour, and at the same time of a brighter tint than in the male. Iris brown ; bill, legs, and feet black (Legge). Length about 8; tail 3-1; wing 4-1; tarsus 1-4; bill from gape 1'2. There are only two skins of this rate bird in the British Museum. One is evidently an adult male, and the other apparently a young male with traces of blue appearing on the back and scapulars. Both birds are described above. Distribution. Ceylon, where this bird is found in dense vegetation on the hills. Genus BRACHYPTERYX, Horsf., 1821. The two Indian birds which I place in this genus are absolutely congeneric with Braehypteryx montana, the type of the genus. They have hitherto been placed in Callene, the type of which is C. frontalis; but they are not only not congeneric with this bird, but they belong, in my opinion, to quite another family. Callene is a true Thrush
