Her present illnessbegan in December, 1012. with a dull aching pain in the back, which wasw^orse when she was on her feet. There was increased frequency ofvoiding and a numb feeling below the waist. Her gait becatno unsteady,and finally she was unable to move her legs or even her toes. ;he was well nourished, had excellent color and didnot seem ill except for the ])aralysis. I^ADIUM. Adiagnosis of chest tmnor was made, and an exi)loratory operation wasdone, March 25, by Dr. J. M. T. Innney, through the left side of theback, and a large, extremely \ascular tumor was found, from which apiece was reuKned. I nfortunately, this specimen was lost, so that adiagnosis as to the exact nature of this growth is not obtainable. Fol-lowing this operation, the ])atient was a little belter for two weeks, but>he again became worse. Treatment.—The patient was gi\eu radiation. Ma\- 21, 1<^I4, with1,583 mg. of radium through 3mm. of lead and 1 inch of gauze on eachof 12 areas, on the back and left chest, one hour over each area.
