RAILWAY AND LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERING 175 Automatic Lubricator for Air Cylinderof Air Pump. I send you herewith drawings and adescription of a lubricator for air brakepumps which I behcvc will be interest-ing to your readers. The object of this lubricator is toprovide simple, effective and reliable. liy. ^ Loco. £ny. means for automatically moistening andlubricating the piston and walls of theair cylinder of the air pump. By theuse of this device, the air ports are keptfree, and burn to oil and gum is obviatedaround the valves and air ports. Thistends to increase the life of the pistonpacking and the walls of the cylinder, and prevents them from rapid wearing,as is now the case. Fig. I illustrates the pump and lubri-cating attachment, fastened to the sideof a locomotive, and gives in a generalway an understanding of the devicemounted on an air pump. This showsthe lubricator and air tillering devicesassociated with the air pump. As will be seen by reference to , the device takes a portion of the ex-haust steam from the steam cylinder, through a pipe and connections, to theair cylinder. The exhaust steam in pass-ing from the steam cylinder to the aircylinder, passes through a regulatingva
