Fleming's left hand rule for motors. This is a visual aid to help work out the direction of a force experienced by a current-carrying wire when it encounters a magnetic field. This phenomenon is known as the motor effect. The first finger is pointed in the direction of the magnetic field and the second finger is pointed in the direction of the current. The thumb then shows you the direction of the force.
