He was mustered into the service October 12, 1861, as sec-ond lieutenant of Company K. Appointed first lieutenantCompany I, June 10, 1862; captain Company K, December15, 1862. He was wounded June 30, 1864, in the knee, infront of Petersburg, Va., while acting as aid to GeneralWm. F Smith, commanding the Eighteenth Army Corps,and died July 30, 1864, at Bennington, X H., after sufferingamputation July 20, aged 22 years, 7 months, 17 days. He also served in the signal corps.
