The Danish submarine UC3 NAUTILUS will tow - or rather push - the Danish amateur-built rocket HEAT to its launching position.
The submarine Nautilus, one of three submarines built by Peter Madsen, is moored at Refshaleøen right in front of the rocket's rig in the port of Copenhagen. It is going to tow - or rather push - the rocket on its rig to its launching position in the Baltic Sea some 20 nautical miles east of the Danish island Bornholm. Two Danish inventors, and self-employed engineers, hope to launch the world's first amateur-built rocket for human space travel next week, scheduled for August 30th. The Danish firm Copenhagen Suborbitals lead by Kristian von Bengtson and Peter Madsen is behind the project. The team has been building the rocket since 2004 without national funds but sponsored by some 20 companies. This first launch is an unmanned test flight. The launching of the rocket HEAT with the unmanned space capsule TYCHO BRAHE has been postponed to Sunday the 5th of September. The launching attempt on Sunday the 5th of September failed due to a mechanical error in a main valve. The oxygen tank and the valve was a late replacement as the original tank had been stolen. As the crew members have to return to work Monday morning, the launching of the rocket has been put off to another time.
