Brain CT scanning. Radiographers carrying out a computed tomography (CT) scan of a patient's brain. The patient is in the background, passing through the scanner, and a sagittal scan through the brain is on the screen at lower centre. CT scanning uses X-rays to obtain 2D and 3D images through body tissues. Unlike ordinary X-ray imaging, CT scanning can be used to image soft tissues such as those in the brain.
