Hewas elected supervisor of his town in 1847, and servedseven years. In 1851 he was elected to represent hiscounty (then entitled to but one member) in the Assem-bly. On the organization of the house in 1852 he wasappointed one of the committee on the erection and di-vision of towns and counties, and also one of a selectcommittee of five appointed by the speaker on the licensequestion, to report to the house the result of their delib-.
