Grace Church at Yorktown. Original caption: Grace Church at Yorktown, a survivor of three wars. In 1781 it was under bombardment by the French fleet, in the War of 1812, the British partially destroyed it, and again in 1862 it withstood the Peninsula Campaign. The bells in the tower were presented to the church by Queen Anne. The original silver communion service of the church is still in use. In the churchyard is buried General Thomas Nelson, Commander of the Virginia Militia during the siege of Yorktown in 1781. J. K. Hillers. 1931. State: Virginia Place: Yorktown.
