People sitting green tables, local politicians preparing speech, Borough Hall ionic columns steps, Columbus Plaza, Brooklyn, NY
The Brooklyn Borough Hall was built 1846-51 as Brooklyn's original City Hall, housing all the functions of city government in one building (offices of Mayor and City Council, courtroom and jail). The Greek Revival style building served as Brooklyn's City Hall until consolidation with New York City in 1898. It now houses the Brooklyn Borough President and is one of the oldest public buildings in Brooklyn. The marble exterior was restored in the 1980s and the Statue of Justice, part of the original plan, installed on top of the roof cupola in 1988. A paved plaza (Columbus Plaza) extends north of the building's ionic columns facade. Not certain of the details here, but preparations for a public statement?
