Acknowledgements I would like to thank the curators of the housing institutions mentioned before for loan of specimens in their care. Special thanks are extended to Dr. S. Uchida, Tokyo, for the gift of a fine collection of Japanese Blephariceridae, and to Dr. J. Bishop (Adelaide) for his Malay- sian material of the family; T. Pitsch (BerUn) also donated some specimens. Dr. K. Tañida (now Osaka) is thanked for help with field work in Japan. Dr. W. Arens, Bayreuth, kindly pro- vided me with the scanning electron photographs of B. pusilla. Dr. F. Schmid (Ottawa) helped by providing unpubhshed information on several of his collecting sites in Pakistan; Dr. C. L. Hogue, Los Angeles, read my manuscript and made very helpful suggestions; his support is also gratefully acknowledged. Asio
