Adorable little chick standing next to its parent MEXICO A LOVABLE Caribbean flamingo chicklet can be seen trying to imitate the adults in these adorable pictures. Only five days old, the chick had just left its nest and learned to stand and walk amongst the group of flamingos known as a ?flamboyance?. Flamingos hatch as fluffy grey birds just a few inches tall, but eventually, they grow to be about five feet with bright pink or crimson plumage. Caribbean flamingos are one of the largest and brightest of all flamingos. Wildlife photographer Hao Jiang from California took these images in the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve in Mexico. In the early hours of dawn, she was able to witness about 15,000 adult flamingos and several thousand chicks at their breeding ground from a distance of 260 feet. ?Flamingos are extremely shy and alert birds. In order to not disturb them, I had to arrive at the reserve with park rangers before dawn and hide in a small blind that was at a safe distance from the group,? she said. ?I had to put my phone on silent, click off the flash on my camera and wait until sunrise to photograph them. ?It was such an impressive scene that this chick was so tiny but stood out because of its contrasting colour and size from the adult flamingos around it. ?This chick was beside its parent (the adult by its right side), copying and preening the adult and looking around curiously. It was so interesting and adorable. ?The flamingo is one of my favourite birds because of their elegance, spectacle and beauty. ?Their pink feathers look like burning flames, making them look so charming and ENDS
