The image is of King Amanullah Khan in tribal dress who was the King of Afghanistan from June 1926 until January 1929 when he was deposed. In typical Afghan fashion the country and Royal household was run on the basis of family feuds and the allegiance of various tribes people all 800 of them. Resonating with Afghan politics 100 years later. Due to typical Afghan unrest Amanullah abdicated in January 1929 to British India now Pakistan. Assembling forces he returned to Kabul in March 1929 but failed to dispose of the Kalakani tribal group. He again fled to British India never to return, later travelling through Europe eventually settling in Italy where he died in 1960. His body was returned to Afghanistan and is buried in Jalalabad.
