Cell cytoskeleton. Immunofluorescent light micrograph (LM) of a cell stained to reveal its cytoskeleton. Microtubules are coloured red and actin microfilaments are yellow. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA, white) genetic material is found in the cell nucleus. The cytoskeleton is the three- dimensional array of protein found in the cell cytoplasm. It provides the cell with its shape and organization, as well as allowing it to form attachments and move materials around. Immunofluorescence is a staining technique which uses antibodies to attach fluorescent dyes to specific cell tissues. Magnification: x500 at 35mm size.
