The amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) First Class Petty Officer Association sponsored the party at the base bowling area where more than 120 children enjoyed food, bowling, balloons and gifts from Santa Claus. Essex is the Navy's only forward-deployed amphibious assault ship and is the flagship for the Essex Expeditionary Strike Group based in Sasebo, Japan.
