A marked peculiarity of the Anseres, found else-where in Struthio, is that the biceps femoris gives off a slipto the gastrocnemius. In most Anseres the flexor longushallucis gives off a slip to the hallux before fusing with the ANSEKES 463 flexor profundus ; in Biziura lobatathe same slip is given off, but it be-comes lost on one of the annular massesof fibrocartilage surrounding the otherflexors. The windpipe in the Anseres is nearlyalways straight, the only exceptionamong the ducks and geese as yetrecorded being Anseranas
