But the patient managedto creep on his hands and knees to a pail of cool,fresh water, drank all he could swallow, returned tohis bed, perspired freely, convalesced, and then toldthe doctor what had cured him. In his later years heabandoned the frequent use of phlebotomy. By act of Congress passed in 1828 the doctor re-ceived a pension for the rest of his life.
