The Duke stopped to chat to local schoolchildren who were there to greet him at the 1500-acre reservoir, which was constructed in the Sixties to meet the demand for water from the new town of Milton Keynes. He then unveiled a new £28 million facility to supply water to the growing population of Bedford. The new facility will store an additional 40 million litres of treated water, which will be supplied to more than a million homes and businesses in the area for decades to come.
