Parafoil in flight. Parafoils are fabric wings that have separate cells that are inflated by the air as they are deployed. The parafoil was developed in 1964 by the Canadian-US inventor Domina Jalbert. Parafoils are now used both in parachute designs and in windsports where flyers use thermal updrafts rising from hillsides. Photographed over the Malvern Hills, Worcestershire, UK.
