They are elliptical, averagingone-sixth of a line in diameter, and are attached byshort peduncles to splenic arterioles a, b, the pedun-cles being continuous with the sheaths accompany-ing those vessels. The £ lienine is a soft mass, in colour passing from reddish-brown to bright red on exposure to air, filling up all the intersticesbetween the larger partitions and vessels. It consists of finebloodvessels, lienine cells, delicate fibres or bands, and blood invarious states. The lienine cells, fig. 434, vary in size fromT-Q3QQ-th to T¥5Q-Q-th of a line, are pale in colour, with a darknucleus: with them are cells with smaller corpuscles, caudatecorpuscles, and free nuclei; all exemplifying 434the size-limiting or shape-inducing property of a /MfAthe viscid materials, proteine and myeline, under @® ©c the reaction of albumino-serous solution : falla- e® ^ /g|ciously suggesting the e continuous process of a y<^/Acell-growth by which new cells are formed m*ZTZfSn? o^-arou
