The cateri)illar feeds upon the leaves of the elm. Vanessa Milberti.—'WvQ \l<:^\ Empress. This beautiful butterfly expands about two and a half inches. The prevailing- color is black, with a wide orange-red band near the hiiul margin of all the wings. On the hind wings is a row of rich blue crescents, on the fore wings is a white .spot near the tips, and reddish-orange spots in the centre of the front margin. Flics in June and July, and a second brood in August. Frequents roadsides. The caterpillar is bro'^wn ; and feeds upon the nettle. l:-l.
