In Vacoas, pylons to supply the trams with electricity have already been installed. The biggest change to come will be seen at the city’s busiest junction, with the bus station on one side and the market on the other. The new road configuration will be carried out in stages, as was the case at Beau-Bassin, to avoid major road closures and other diversions. At the end of the work, traffic at this junction will be controlled by traffic signs. Further down, in the direction of Palmerstone, the builder is laying the rails. We will have to wait until the end of the year to see some in the city center. By the end of 2022, Vacoassiens will in turn be able to take the metro, at the same time as the Curepipiens. However, MEL says operations could be launched as far away as Phoenix by mid-2022. Another development to come: the Vacoas Urban Terminal. The market, part of the premises of the Special Mobile Force (SMF), among others, will be demolished to make way for a modern, multi-functional and larger station. It will house the new Vacoas market as well as foodcourts. As for the station, it will be an intermodal center because it will integrate the bus station and the metro station. Until then, what do the inhabitants of Vacoas think of this new mode of transport? How do they welcome these major infrastructure works in their city? Dust, noise, traffic jams do not seem to bother Lewis Navette, who welcomes the tram in his town. He is seething with impatience. “It’s a good development. This means of transport will make our lives easier. It is a good initiative.” Devianee Ramchurn, standing in front of her clothing store, agrees. “We are happy. Many people face transportation problems. It will make our city more alive. ”
