The so-called "Grande Canale" in Trieste, a city in the northeast of Italy on the Adriatic Sea. Originally built in the 18th century to facilitate the unloading of ocean-going ships, it was subsequently filled in. Reopened in the 20rh century, it now harbors small pleasure craft. Despite its name, it is less than a kilometer long.
