Considerable remains of an ancient city arestill visible there, which have been regarded by manywriters as those of Terina (Millingen, Ancient Coins,p. 25, Numismatique de I Anc. Italie, p. 58). It isnot improbable that the NovKpia cited by Stephanusof Byzantium from Philistus is the city in question,though he terms it a city of Tyrrhenia, which mustin any case be erroneous. [E. H. B.]. L.] NUDIUM (NouSiov), a town founded by theMinyae, in Triphylia in Elis, but which was destroyedby the Eleians in the time of Herodotus (iv. 148). NUITHONES, a German tribe, mentioned byTacitus (Germ. 40) as inhabiting the banks of theAlbis (Elbe), to the SW. of the Longobardi. Theyin common with other neighbouring tribes worshippedErtha, that is, the Earth. In some editions thename is written Nurtones; so that nothing definitecan be said either in regard to the import of theirname or to the exact locality they inhabited. [L.
