The best quality of this variety seems to be grown in the district near Sarepta, in the Volga River region. When grown from well-selected seed its appearance in the field is very striking, because of the black heads. This variety has also been imported by this Department and distributed in several of the States of the semi-arid districts. It is well adapted for any portion of these districts, but may be especially suitable for a winter variety in Texas. 1 On the other hand, in unusually damp, cloudy seasons all these macaroni wheats are likely to be severely affected by the black stem rust.
