Stirling had made a small collection of sherds from a creek bed in this locality on his initial visit, and the abundance of washed-out material suggested this might be a likely place. T-1 was located at the edge of the higher ground on which the modern rancheria is situated (fig. 2). T-2, T-3, and T-4 were intended to test the banks of the stream in which such quantities of sherds could be seen, and T-5 and T-6 were staked out 110 and 220 m. east-southeast of T-3 among the small mounds.
