Tobacco in the Vinales Valley, in the Pinar del Rio Province of Cuba.

Tobacco hangs in a tobacco barn in the Vinales Valley, in the Pinar del Rio Province of Cuba. The Vinales Valley has been on UNESCO's World Heritage List since November 1999 as a cultural landscape enriched by traditional farm and village architecture. The Vinales Valley has unusual limestone hills, or "mogotes," created by the erosion of the ancient Guaniguanico mountain range. Mogotes date to the Jurassic period, and are only found in Cuba and some areas of China. Old-fashioned farming methods are still used, notably to grow tobacco.
