The smokestack of 1904 Interborough Rapid Transit powerhouse on the West Side of Manhattan between recent development in New York is seen on Sunday, January 25, 2015. The huge building, designed by McKim Mead and White, was originally built to power the IRT subway line and was subsequently sold in 1959 to the Consolidated Edison Company which converted it into a steam-generating plant. There have been a number of attempts to landmark the building over the years and another one is currently being pushed forward. (© Richard B. Levine)
