Anti-ulcer drug. Misoprostol is a type of prostaglandin drug that is used to protect the lining of the stomach and intestines against gastric ulcer formation. It is taken to counteract the effects of non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs, for example aspirin, in patients who take them regularly. It is also used unofficially as a non-surgical method of abortion during the early stages of pregnancy, and can be used to induce labour, although it has not been approved for these functions. Misoprostol is marketed with the brand-name \Cytotec\"."
