The baby grey seal had a scary first few days NORFOLK COAST, ENGLAND ADORABLE IMAGES taken on December 3rd 2023 show a roly-poly newborn seal cub frolicking in the sand for the first time. The seal pup is happy to be alive and enjoying the sand and then two other seals start to thrash into each other and the little one seems to cover its ears before returning to the safety of mum's side. The grey seal is a large seal of the family Phocidae, which are commonly referred to as "true seals" or "earless seals". The only species classified in the genus Halichoerus, it is found on both shores of the North Atlantic Ocean. In Latin, Halichoerus grypus means "hook-nosed sea pig" These images were captured by Marketing VP Marc Freebrey (49) from Gloucestershire, England. Marc captured the seals on the Norfolk Coast, England on his Nikon Z9, Nikkor PF 500mm, , 1/1000 sec, ISO 720. ?These photos were taken on the coast of Norfolk, which is renowned for its long sandy beaches and its spectacular Grey seal colony,? said Marc. ?The seal pupping season starts from November - January but it's vitally important not to disturb the mother and pups at this time. ?The pup in the majority of the images is just a few days old and still has its umbilical cord. ?When born, the grey seal pup weighs approx 14kg and will feed from the mother for just three weeks. ?The pup will triple in weight in that short period of time and the mum will then leave and mate again. ?The pup will stay on the beach for another three weeks before heading off to sea to fend for itself. ?I arrived early in the morning to ensure there were not too many others around. I lay on my stomach and waited silently to ensure the seals were comfortable with my presence. ?Once a little trust was gained I crawled slowly to get a little closer and started to take photos. ?The seals were never alarmed and quite happy to be the star attraction. ?It was smelly but also very funny to see the seals inter
