The bathing pool was designed and built by Sidney Little who was the Borough Engineer. The huge pool was 15ft deep under the concrete diving platform. The pool staged many swimming and diving events, plus fashion and beauty shows. Due to package holidays abroad becoming popular, bathing numbers fell and the pool closed in 1959. It became a holiday camp (1960–86). It was demolished in 1993.

A woman diving from the boards at the Hastings St Leonards Bathing Pool, Seaside Road, St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, England, UK The impressive lido opened in 1933. The bathing pool was designed and built by Sidney Little who was the Borough Engineer. Its design resembled a Greek or Roman amphitheatre, with curved, stepped terracing for spectators. The 330ft by 90ft pool held a million gallons of water. The pool graduated in depth from 2ft to 15ft under the concrete diving platform. The pool staged many National Swimming and Diving Championships, plus fashion and beauty shows. In 1952 the British Olympic Swimming team used the pool for training. However, due to package holidays abroad becoming increasingly affordable, bathing numbers dwindled and the pool closed in 1959. It became a holiday camp from 1960 until 1986. It was demolished in 1993. The site now is home to underground holding tanks for storm water.
