The Chicken Turtle belongs to the first group of the genus,but may be recognised by the following characteristics: 1. The exceedingly long, snake-like neck. 2. The narrow and rather globular shell. This species grows to a length of eight inches. The shellis narrower and proportionately higher than that of any of theterrapins. Though the neck is extremely long, the head is en-tirely retractile. Colouration.—Carapace olive or brown, with a net-workof fine, yellow lines; the under marginal shields are yellow andeach contains a black blotch. Plastron immaculate yellow.
