, Chitcani, Transnistria, Moldova - The Russian-Orthodox Ascension Monastery Neu-Niamtz was closed by the Soviet power in 1962 and re-opened in 1989. Photo: The 68m high bell tower and a monastery church. Transnistria is a repulsive Moldovan republic under Russian influence east of the river Dnister. The region split in 1990 from Moldova and is and is not recognized by any other country. Even the Russia-dependent structures are known as the Transdnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Pridnestrovkaja Moldavskaja Respublika / PMR).
