A trumpet banner with the cipher "C A R O L", presumably from the Duchy of Brunswick, 18th century. Red silk damask with floral decoration and high quality embroidery on both sides in silver purl, and green and red wool. In the centre the curved cipher 'CAROL" under a crown, trophy bundles in the corners with banners, kettle drums or helmets, with vines and scrolls between them. The edges are fringed with a somewhat wider border at the top with five loops for attaching the banner. Ca. 45 x 52 cm. Most certainly from the reign of Karl I (1713 - 1780) who became ,
