In time allthe members of the society participatedin these gatherings. A Penitents-meeting was also insti-tuted, for the benefit of penitent back-sliders; in which the hymns, prayers,and exhortations were adapted to thespecial circumstances of those who at-tended. The early Methodists observed amonthly watch-night. Some of theKingswood people commenced the prac-tice, by spending on occasion the greaterpart of the night in prayer, praise, andthanksgiving.
