In this pursuit he steadilyprosjiered, and when he died at the advancedage of 87 he was one of the most well-to-dofarmers of his home county. He was a manof excellent mind, of sterling integrity, muchforce of character, deeply interested in mat-ters ])olitical and religious. For nearly three-(|uarters of a century he was a leading elderin the Ihiited Presbyterian church of Woos-ter, Oliio, and even early in the fifties he hadattained considerable notoriety in the com-munity for his strenuous ojtposition to slav-ery. He was an ardent supporter of the gov-. .IAMi;S :. eminent in the <i\il War and contributedmoney lilierally to help his county secure itsneeded quota of men.
