Maggie's is named after 1980’s Prime-Minister-turned-icon Maggie Thatcher who was in power throughout this ten year period. The club is walking distance from Thatcher’s present home, though whether she chooses to visit remains to be seen! Club-goers can hear her famous speeches playing in the loos, while Thatcher memorabilia vies for space on the walls along with other iconic 80’s images and paraphernalia from A Team action men to A-Ha platinum discs. A graffiti mural along the wall depicts a bizarre cross section of 80’s legends including Timmy Mallet, Mr T and David Bowie, whilst all the clubs decor and furniture clashes in a similar fashion. The music is a mixture of classics from the 1980’s, and stars from the era will play regular DJ sets. The Maggies bar tenders are dressed like Tom Cruise in the 80’s cult movie, Cocktail, and serve up a range of drinks from Pina Coladas and Daiquiris to the unforgettable Babycham. The waitresses, meanwhile, are dressed in neon leggings and permed wigs and roller-skate to guests sat at giant rubik’s cube tables. A bottle of vintage Champagne signed by Thatcher herself (with letter of authenticity) is the centrepiece of the diverse Maggies menu - which is depicted through classic 1980’s view masters.
