, 2016 - Cádiz, Spain - Ahead of the official start of Carnival, the city's renowned groups of local singers compete in an official contest in the city's historic Falla theatre. There are different types of singing groups : "coros" (large choirs consisting of several dozen singers and musicians) and "chirigotas" or "comparsas" (choirs comprising 12 to 15 singers and musicians). In this image, the Coro "Sigo Siendo el Rey" performs parts of its repertoire during the semifinal of the contest. Carnival has a long tradition in the city of Cádiz. The celebrations last 2 weeks each year in February. It is immensely popular among the city's residents, and even attracts visitors from all over Spain. Cádiz's carnival is famous its "Coros", "Chirigotas" and "Comparsas", the choirs of local residents who perform on streets and squares during carnival. Their repertoire of songs is varied and often has a witty satirical take on the years' political events and news, or humorous innuendo.
