. Escorted tours to Yellowstone Park via Gardiner Gateway : original and northern entrance . in fromChicago, all the way to St. Paul-Minneapolis the oldFather of Waters shows off in his grandest style. Along the banks of only a few of the worlds mostfamous streams is there found scenery of suchbeauty, ranging all the way from the softly pictur-esque to the sublimely grand, as along the UpperMississippi. Not only is there magnificent scenery, but every mile is replete with legendary lore andhistoric fact with which are associated the names ofDe Soto, the discoverer of the Father of Waters, ofHiawatha, Winona and Black Hawk of Indian fame, and three Presidents of the United States. The Northern Pacific—the Yellowstone ParkLine—follows the route of the old fur traders and theRed River carts, crosses the beautiful Lake Parkregion of Minnesota, dotted with attractive summerplaces, passes the valley of the Red River of theNorth, the richest in the growth of wheat of any inthe United States, and stretches westward acrossNorth Dakotas broad plains to the Missouri River. Page Twelve. The Magnificent Grand Canyon Hotel MEDORA, the former home of Ex-PresidentRoosevelt, is in the heart of the famousPyramid Park. Petrified tree stumps dotthe landscape and an army of spires, bluffs, hills, buttes and castled cliffs rise from the plains, garbedin striking colors that attract the eye. Reds andpinks are the predominant colors, but coal blacks, grays and drabs are blended with the colors, causingfantastic effects. These hills, washed by the eternalrains, have been eroded into cones, pyramids andsquares, which are circumscribed by rugged, twistingravines, gouged out by the torrential floods. Billings, the great industrial capital of the Yellow-stone Valley, is soon reached. One hundred andfifteen miles beyond is Livingston, the Park Junc-tion. A ride of fifty-four pleasant miles southward,in an open-top observation car, brings one to Gard-iner, right at the northern edge of Yellowston
