China: 'Chairman Mao en Route to Anyuan'. Copy of an oil on canvas painting by Liu Chunhua (1944-), Zunyi Conference Hall Revolutionary Museum, Zunyi, Guizhou Province, 1967. This oil painting depicts a young Mao during the Anyuan Miners' Strike of 1922, a defining moment for the nascent Chinese Communist Party. Mao helped to organise a nonviolent strike of thirteen thousand workers, a majority of which subsequently enlisted in the Red Army as soldiers. Mao Zedong (26 December 1893 - 9 September 1976), also transliterated as Mao Tse-tung, was a Chinese communist revolutionary and leader.
