An engineer looks up at one of the mirrors, or heliostats, of the CRTF (Central Receiver Test Facility) experimental solar power station at Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. The CRTF has a field of 222 heliostat arrays, each consisting of 25 square mirror facets. The heliostats concentrate the Sun's rays on boilers mounted on the 61-metre high tower that can be seen in the background. Water circulated through the boilers is converted to steam by the high-intensity solar radiation, & the steam is used to drive a turbo- generator to produce electricity.
