In 1899 he movedthe plant to a large two-story brick buildingon Clark street, and has associated with him-self his son, A. S. Halvorsen. The Enter-prise enjoys the largest actual and paid cir-culation of any paper published in Freeborncounty. In politics Mr. Halvorsen is a Re-publican. He was a delegate to the Repub-lican state convention of Iowa when onlyseventeen 3ears of age. In 1880 he was elect-ed state senator by a thousand majority overDr. Ballard and D. N. Gates, opposition can-didates, both older and highly esteemed made an excellent record in the JIAHLELLUS serving on the judiciary, j)ublic lands, print-ing, road and bridge and engrossed billscommittees. He introduced several important measures, and succeeded in g^ingthrough a resolution dismissing sixteen sen-ate employes. He could easily have been re-nominated in 1890, and elected, if he hadtaken any personal interest in his own cam-](aign. Mr. Halvorsen is a member of theI. O. O. F., the M. W. A. and the M. 15. 15, 187(t, he was married to MildredA. Salsiih, at Hail land. Wis.
