Mo-Clay cliff, Bispehuen. Fur, Denmark.

Bispehuen. Fur, Denmark. Bispehuen - Bishops Hat - is a Mo-Clay (Diatomaceous earth) formation and which clearly shows the Mo-Clay and ash llayer. The cliff is created by the company which operated the open pit where they digged up mo-clay, as they simply let this part alone as they escavated around it. Mo-Clay (the word comes from the Danish: Moler) was created for some 55 million years ago and consist of some 10% ash, 30% clay and 60% diatomé sea shells. The dark layers are ash from numerous volcanic eruptions. Mo-Clay is used in many different applications, in particular insulation - but also as cat litter. It is rich with fossils and fossil hunting is very popular among tourists on Fur, where the local museum even host small courses for aspiring fossil hunters (copy-paste: IMG_8260 into search field)
