This branch of the Kjolen is connected by low ridges and terraces with the Tiveden and other hills, formerly serving as the natural limit of North and South Sweden—Nordan-Skog and Sunnan-Skog, or " North Forest " and " South ; The elevations occurring especially in Scania, formerly an island separated by wide channels from the rest of Sweden, must be regarded as quite distinct from the Norwegian system, although formed almost entirely of the same crystalline and palaeozoic rocks.
