On 19th September 1783 a balloon rose up into the court d'honneur of the Château de Versailles carrying with it a sheep, rooster and a duck in a wicker basket. On 21st November 1783 at the Château de la Muette in Paris, Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and the marquis d’Arlandes rose up into the air. They flew over Paris and landed in the clos Payen in flan de coteau de la Butte in Cailles, Paris. The profiles of Etienne and Josephe-Michel Montgolfier both appear on a medal.
